FAQ FOR PARENTS
Question:
Will Pearland I.S.D. be able to access my personal information on my device while using BYOD?
No. BYOD allows your student to connect to our wireless network but Pearland ISD cannot access any personal information on a student device. What sites students visit will be monitored as required by the Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
Question:
My student says he/she cannot access the network on their laptops or phones. What should we do?
Answer:
Try to utilize the directions found on Accessing the Network. If it persists, there could be a problem with the device itself. With BYOD, since these are not PISD devices, the district does not allocate resources to troubleshoot issues. It is not a staff member’s responsibility to ensure that student owned technology is functioning properly.
Question:
What do I do if the network stops functioning, and students cannot access the internet?
Answer:
It is possible that the number of devices accessing the system will slow it down. Teachers will have a backup activity/ alternative assignment prepared.
Question:
What if a student loses, breaks or otherwise damages their device?
Answer:
Report all incidents of lost, broken, or stolen devices to an administrator. The District is not responsible for student technology but all incidents will be documented.
Question:
What are the classroom rules for using student owned devices including phones?
Answer:
Students are expected to be respectable digital citizens and abide by the provisions outlined in the Pearland ISD Bring Your Own Device Guidelines. Violation of these provisions may result in suspension or revocation of system access as well as appropiate disciplineary action as outlined in student code of conduct.
Question:
What if my student(s) doesn’t bring a device?
Answer:
Not all students will bring a device and it is not required. If they do not have a device, alternative options will be provided.
